All parents are openly invited into school to discuss any celebration issues or concerns. Uploading or posting any pictures, videos, text on the Internet that could upset, offend or threaten the safety of any member of the School community or brings the school into disrepute by parents is not acceptable.

A much more positive way forward, and one we would welcome, is for you to speak directly to us. We always seek to work in partnership together.

Welcome from the Head Teacher Mrs Nuttall

Welcome to The Bishop Harvey Goodwin Church of England Primary School ! We are a happy, vibrant and caring learning community situated near to the historic city of Carlisle. Our school was created as result of an effective amalgamation in 2002. We are fully committed to ensure that you and your child remain at the heart of our school so that they achieve their full potential in an enjoyable and secure environment.

During our recent Ofsted inspection in January 2013 Ofsted rated us as good.
They said our pupils make good progress overall because the majority of
lessons have good teaching and some of it is outstanding. We were
particularly pleased about the way they identified pupils as being proud of
their school and considerate of one another.

'The school is well led. Senior staff has high aspirations for the school
and its pupils. They spare no effort in cultivating a harmonious atmosphere
that reflects the school's Christian ideals.' (Ofsted January 2013)

Our Senior Leadership Team is made up of myself as Headteacher, Mrs Williams the Deputy Headteacher and Mrs Craggs Lead Teacher of the Foundation Stage/ Key Stage One.  As a school we really value the good relationships we form with parents and the way this positively impacts on the well-being of all our pupils. Our latest SIAS Report June 2011 recognised this strength.

“ ..effective leadership team and dedicated staff who  ‘Never give up hope on a child’.”  (SIAS 2011)

“The strong leadership of the Headteacher is firmly based on explicitly expressed Christian values. She is well supported by committed staff and governors…All those involved in the school work to challenge and inspire pupils to achieve their potential.” (SIAS June 2011)

As we are a Church of England Voluntary Aided School we have a wide range of stakeholders including the Governing Body, Local Authority, School Staff, Pupils and Parents. The Local Authority maintains us; however, the governing body is the Admissions Authority. We are in the parish of St John The Baptist, Upperby and are closely associated with St Herbert’s parish in Currock. Although Religious Education and Worship are distinctively Anglican we warmly welcome pupils from all denominations.

We have achieved many awards including Investors in People, Healthy Schools Award and the Arts Mark of which we are very proud.

Please take time to look at our website. Feedback and suggestions are always welcome or simply come and visit us.
