Friendship – Summer 2
Encourage one another and build each other up. 1 Thessalonians 5 v 11
We looked at the story of Jesus, Mary and Martha. (Luke 10:38-42)
People can’t build friendships if they don’t spend time together, getting to know each other and listening to one another. Jesus recognised that Mary had chosen well, spending time, so that her relationship with him could deepen and flourish. It was not a criticism of Martha but acknowledgement that Mary’s time with him was time well spent. He wanted both sisters to make time for friendship to grow.
‘Friendships that Flourish’
We used the analogy of a garden to illustrate the idea that investing time in friendships allows them to flourish in the same way that gardens blossom when time and care is invested in nurturing the plants. Each class focused on a different aspect of gardening to bring out the similarity to nurturing friendships.
